You can say all that... and it may be valid and relevant.
But to me, all it comes down to is watching him make decisions that baffle everyone from the simple minded to people inside the program for years. He got all this credit for austin in 2009 and it's gone to his head. Even last year doing crap like completely changing up the lineup (while keeping in the two players struggling most) and starting Person, he thinks he can find that "hunch" again. At the same time, he blames the baseball seams, having to recruit against Vandy and TCU (wut?), players, and everything else under that sun.

Trust me, his limitations and the edges of his coaching capability envelope are well known by others. But my entire point is that throwing alllll of the legion of issues with him from a personality and fit standpoint out, when it comes to his achievements, the only way folks are able to defend him is to reframe the entire debate.
The changes in the ball and the bats are somehow preventing him-and anyone else-from doing what he did. It's simply untrue. There's nothing holding Pauline Maineiri back from firing inept coaches like Javy Sanchez except for the very familial emotions that nepotism laws were created to avoid except for Pauline himself.
There's nothing preventing Pauline Maineiri from playing a 6th round draft pick like Tyler Moore every day except for Pauline himself.
There's nothing making Pauline Maineiri's dugout demeanor in-game situations seem akin to an Irritable Bowel Syndrome sufferer whose just coming off of a three day fast of cheese and Immodium by taking some fast-acting Ex Lax, Stool Softeners and eating a pound of thick cut bacon except for Pauline Maineiri.
It's him. It's just that his fans have been allowed to reframe the entire discussion so that his limitations are now considered strengths, that our championship expectations are now misguided, and that anyone who feels or thinks the way that Skip Bertman relentlessly imputed into his teams about EXPECTING Championships is now a ridiculous, anachronistic, out-of-touch goofball negatiger.
It's amazing to see how they've done all that. But it's happened.
