well, Lattimmore would advisee LF to take some time off. if LF get Lattimore type injury, then will this board say too bad that's football. this is a reasonable business decision for LF to consider.

It would be tragic if he got hurt playing for free when he is worth millions today.

i agree. IF he won't lose his draft ranking over it, which i doubt he would, then it's the best decision.
it's not complicated. if someone told me i could make millions of dollars by taking a year off i'd do it.
i don't know if lf would do it or not. i hope he doesn't, but i couldn't blame him if he does. anyone who says they care about him shouldn't blame him either, including lsu teammates and fans.
