Two people were arrested during an overnight raid at an eastern New Orleans apartment complex last week in connection with the investigation of high-profile armed robberies at Uptown bars and restaurants, New Orleans police confirmed Monday (Oct. 5).
The two people, an 18-year-old New Orleans man and a juvenile, have not yet been charged in any of the three armed robberies and are not at this time considered suspects, said NOPD spokesman Tyler Gamble. But he confirmed the Wednesday night raid – conducted by police and federal authorities – stemmed from leads generated by the Uptown robberies investigation.
The raid came two nights after three masked gunmen barged into Monkey Hill Bar, 6100 Magazine St., around 10:20 p.m. Sept. 28. That was the third robbery of an Uptown restaurant or bar by masked gunmen in a five-week period, prompting New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu to reach out to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite for federal assistance.
