You could just tell him that you're having marital issues and need to spend some time alone together to get back on track.

OR

Blame it all on your wife and that way you stay cool with him and make her the bad guy. Better yet, if she just told him next time hes over that yall prefer a bit more privacy then I guarantee he will respect that and the relationship will remain pretty good. An older man like that will give a younger woman a bit more leeway than if you were to tell him the same thing.
