If LSU Ran the Wishbone

If we ran the wishbone with our current QB and running backs how many yards on the ground we could run up? Over 500 yards per game? I'd have to think many big runs in the 2nd half after the defense is worn down.

I've missed your threads on here Tex

Les gone Paul Johnson or Don Ho from Navy next coach

Ha, ha! Don't post as much. Love our QB and stable of running backs. Would love to see what we could do in the wishbone or veer behind our line. I wish we could put in some wishbone plays just to see how they would do.

We were talking about this very topic the other day at work. It would be ridiculous the number of rushing yards that would be averaged every game.

For one, we wouldn't be able to recruit like we do just bc the mega star RBs done want to play in this style of offense. Because it doesn't prepare them for the NFL

Wishbone has been solved schematically for defenses. That's why it evolved into flexbone. Why can't anyone ever be happy

For those who don't know what the wishbone is, here's a youtube of Oklahoma running it in the 80's.

I don't think anyone is saying that we should go that direction on offense, just fun to think what that stable of backs along with Harris, and our athletic line COULD do.

Then the receivers would not come to LSU nor would LSU be effective like 99 percent of the teams that ran wishbone in the 70s. Duh!

It would be fun to see 3 of lsu's running backs in the backfield at one time. It might be a nice wrinkle 3-4 times a game.
AU defense would probably just quit if they saw, fournette, wiilams and guice lined up all at once. That Is a whole lotta pain pointed at the defense.
I'm not sure many teams would know how to defend it without a long time to prepare for it. It would be hard to install an effective defense for it if LSU only ran it occasionally.

I would take that as at least it would not be obvious where our plays are being run. That is if Les would not pick the dive option up the middle each time from the Wishbone

I wouldn't be surprised to see some variation of this at an opportune time during the season, same way they ran an option play at one point against Auburn but then we didn't see it again.

NCAA 20hrs/wk vs the time needed to teach proper execution prevents "dabbling" in compllicated option football. Too bad it's not just about backfield guys.

Somebody with some sense of football... You don't just go into a week and say hey let's get into the wish bone... Now there are some things that we could do with a 3 back, backfield out of the gun... Able to run outside zone, inside zone, iso, counter, option and PA and I would be delighted to see something like that added at some point.
