I'm not sure what to think here, so I need help. Not a fan of using four problems on paper to solve one problem, but that is kind of how I do it in my head when I don't have paper. I know right, keeping track of four different problems in my head without paper, wow, just wow. My question; as I cant read the numbers in the image, is why are there two rows with four columns in the Dollar Amount and two rows with five columns in the Word Amount? Do these equal the same number; or is this just another gotcha gone bad?

My problem with common core is that it shouldn't matter how a student comes up with the solution if the answer is correct. If a kid wants to do it the old fashion way, or use this common core then so be it. I would even argue that being able to do it using different techniques would make a person even better at it.
