If we are supposed to learn to love that type of offense, then why are we trying to get so many WRs yearly? Why are we getting a pass catching TE every year?
2013
4 WRs, pass catching TE
2014
4 WRs, pass catching TE
2015
3 WRs (we had four, but one had to go JUCO), pass catching TE
2016
2 WR, pass catching TE. We had 3 WRs, and were looking for another still, but one has decomitted.
So I'm looking at this, and I'm seeing us yearly pick up more pass catching weapons than an air raid, soooooo, why should I expect, and learn to love to run the ball 70% of the time? Doesn't make sense with the players we are recruiting. I mean have you seen the hands from Ducre, Fournette, Williams, and Guice? Moore was a TE in HS, Mouton was a TE in high school, Upchurch was a WR. Smith, Washington, and now Pettigrew, all top 6 TEs, all receiving TEs.
So forgive me if I want to see an NFL level offense. Utilization of all pass catchers (WRs, RBs, TEs, FBs), and not just special packages like put Guice in for one play and predictably throw to him.
And I love our running backs running the ball, but not only is our running game stale, the style of running is stale as well. Like somebody said a couple days ago, most of what Harris did wasn't really a zone read, more like a delayed handoff. How about getting a little more creative than run straight into a wall 35 of 45 run plays.
Since it was the first game, ok I'll get over that, but we have way too many weapons to just hulk smash into a 10 person wall all game (exaggerating a bit).
