He also had 53 pass attempts and they ran like 82 plays. When you give someone like Dak that many opportunities, they eventually will make some plays and put up some #s. He's a damn good player. Plus, 82 plays is a LOT for any defense. It's even tougher when it comes against a team that likes to play at a fast pace.

I didn't make this thread to bring up the 2nd half offensive woes we had, but that def was a big part of the issue. They knew we were gonna run it, they stacked the box, we ran the ball, they stopped us a lot, and we punted. We had too many waste drives by doing they and gave them the ball back. Too many 3 and outs in the 2nd half. If we get a few more 1st downs on offense, they don't get the chance to get back in the game or put up big #s like they ended up with.

Other than the formations and getting penetration the defense looked similar to previous defenses

well those are 2 big differences from the last few years. And in a good way too. But I mean it's a lot of the same players from last year. I never said it was a completely different D. But the problems the last few years on D was the lack of pressure. And Chavis rarely blitzes and wasn't too creative or versatile with the schemes. I'm a Chavis fan too, don't get me wrong. Very good DC. But I also felt our D was almost a little too controlled with him the last few years. With the speed and DBs we have had, you can cut hem loose in the front and let our DBs do what they do. Chavis was almost too safe

And I thought we did that vs Miss St. Showed a lot of different looks and blitzes and let our DBs do what they do. We played a lot better on D than the #s indicate. And like I said, a big part of that was the offense in the 2nd half. But that will improve too.

Oh and saying that the D looked like it did in the past... That's a good thing. Do you remember the reaction we had when we hired Steele? If there wasn't a drop off, like so many thought there would be, then he's doing something right. And I thought we looked better than last year, mainly because we got pressure and blitzed and showed a lot of diff looks, things we haven't seen in a while. And they worked too.
