I am basing my responses on the theory that the OP.s kid merely asked a simple question, not being a smartass.

My opinion is the teacher over-reacted, b/c he/she, coming from her own perspective, found the word offensive.

I would hope the OP would not be confrontational, but would merely want information.

Of course, in a public school environment, he's wasting his time.

Not sure how old the OP's kid is, but if he's in grade school, there is no way he saw the UNCF commercials without being tipped off by his racist trolling dad. They haven't run those commercials for years
