Also, I suggest that anyone looking to make a large purchase from Academy, BP, Cabelas, etc. look into buying 2nd hand gift cards online. I paid about $560 for $700 worth of giftcards. Earlier this year I bought a rifle using $1000 worth of gift cards that I paid $820 for

I have never even heard of gift card granny. Seems like a good idea but the buyer protection is a must have in that situation.
Mind if I ask how much you paid for the gift cards and to what amount did they equal?
