i mean...jobs is a good start. boomers are extending their working lives to afford their super materialistic wages. this is causing massive waves and ripples through the economy denying entry-level jobs that are close to what the boomers had when they started their adult lives
not being in debt (and i don't mean student debt) with future obligations for the boomers who proliferated a broken system
not having any earning potential drowned by insane inflation caused by monetary policies of the boomers
etc

Every generation faces challenges that prior generations did not. My father fought in world war two. My generation was the last group living with the military draft, in a time of an ongoing unpopular war.
Life is not fair. Our educational system is broken. On and on. I can't help the financial conditions you face. Don't fall into the trap of blaming adverse circumstances on someone different from you. Not all old people are/were assholes, just like not all young people are not whining little babies. For what it is worth, in my experience, young people are suffering from a outdated and politically correct educational system, and they are often not well trained or suited for the job market they face. They are given unrealistic expectations by a society that lies to them about the harshness of life. Your generation needs to change that.

Lyndon Johnson? The first of the Baby Boomers were just reaching voting age when that sack of shite was elected. There was no great wave of young Baby Boomers voting for him. The great wave of later Boomers voted Republican, trying to reduce government.
they didn't vote in a manner that would eliminate the noose of medicare, social security, medicaid, etc. the boomers supported policies that expanded government. the war on drugs, expanding the military-industrial complex, expanding social welfare programs, etc.

When Ronald Reagan was elected, the Democratic Congress fought him at every turn.
Ronald Reagan, who put the military-industrial complex on overdrive, costing gen x/y/m trillions in debt?
that "conservative" who "fought government expansion"?

Yes, and DemocRATS want 20 million illegals to have jobs because they might become future DemocRATS.
Or do you mean $250,000 a year straight out of college?
There have been complaints in this thread of coming out of college and only making $50,000 a year.

they are more intelligent and more educated than the boomers who came before them. what kind of point are you making?
quote:
They are given unrealistic expectations
their expectations are the same opportunities that were available to those before them. how is that unrealistic?
or are you admitting that the boomers have completely fricked our society to where basic expectations are now "unrealistic"?

did you think i was talking about the lowest-level jobs?
are you really that dense? somebody who is trying to insult the intelligence of others should think more about what he is posting

so to you, there are jobs like being a maid or farmhand on one hand, and $250k/year jobs on the other? sounds legit

that's a fair complaint given what boomers had
boomers didn't even have to go to college to get the equivalent jobs in the 70s. you got a fat union manufacturing job at 18 and rode off into the sunset

Everybody hates the Boomers. They even hate themselves. And rightly so. Strange how the Greatest Generation spawned the Shittiest Generation.
Posted on 8/28/15 at 8:10 am to CadesCove
the greatest generation created the foundation for the issues that we face today. the boomers weren't in power in the early 60s

You have a missing one.
It should say, "I have a pension to retire on. Where's yours? Oh that's right, my generation ruined that for you."

Yes, you should.

No, but you idiots think you should go right to the top of the pay scale simply because you have a degree. You think it is owed to you.

DemocRATS.
We're trying to kill them off, but you millennials turn out in droves to vote them back in exchange for promises of 'free stuff' funded by the other fellow's dime.

i own my own business, bro
$50k/year (a number mentioned on this page) is not "the top of the pay scale", either, especially in an urban area

those jobs vanishing aren't a political issue. it's an economic issue, which necessitates a degree, which is why the younger generations are so much more educated and qualified for entry-level jobs than what the boomers were. yet, their opportunities are very dire.
until the boomers retire, there simply aren't enough jobs. since the boomers refuse to retire, the ripple is that the young generation of qualified entry-level employees are denied that economic opportunity. it's a simple numbers game, and the one group who can't be blamed is the one who lacks power.
also, you're ignoring the monetary policy destroying earning and earning potential as well as the debt the boomers have left the younger generation with (as well as teh expectation that the younger generation continue to subsidize the lives of the boomers). we're talking $14-17T in actual debt and something insane like $50-80T in unfunded liabilities that the boomers expect to have paid

You are fielding an army of strawmen
Posted on 8/28/15 at 8:28 am to Rickety Cricket
naw bro those 20M illegal immigrants working as farm hands or in the lowest-level of service industry are taking jobs from college-educated millenials
Posted on 8/28/15 at 8:29 am to SlowFlowPro
I'd love to see a comparison for startup costs for a business 40 years ago compared to today. Depending on industry, the amount of new regulations must be staggering.

I might would blame the "greatest" generation on that.

You disappoint me. One generation being more intelligent than another? I think that you and I are in the same profession. Do you really think it was easier when I started out? Yes, when I was young some people with minimal education got jobs making good money, and I know those chances are rare today but to blame an entire generation because your life is not what you would like it to be? Have you ever considered that maybe your financial conditions are a product of your own choices?
And to say your expectations are what we had is bullshite. We all grew up with the "you can be anything" garbage. It didn't take long to realize that some people aren't able to be successful at anything.
Contributing to your financial condition? Boomers are likely paying your salary. Stick to your guns and quit your job, and quit taking work from older people since they are causing you so much grief.
The biggest difference in the generations is that your group looks to blame someone else instead of just dealing with reality.

not applicable
those regulations are the fault of the OTHER TEAM
MY TEAM would never create new regulatory bodies like hte EPA, increase regulations of existing agencies, or support a law like the ADA

I know it isn't. However there are millennials in thread complaining that they only start out at $50,000 a year fresh out of college. They literally expect six figure income immediately.
