I've taken both routes from NOLA to Lafayette, 90, and I10 numerous times. As far as I'm concerned they take the same amount of time, and to me, the stress level is a lot lower on 90.

With that being said, 90 between Raceland and Morgan City is pretty much already interstate, so that's a pretty good chunk. And yeah, the part south out of Lafayette is going to be the tough part.

I think the next part they ought to bring up to interstate standards is from Raceland tying into 310 in Boutte.

the tolls should go back on the Crescent City Connection and on the Huey and 310 bridges to pay for completion of I-49 from the elevated West Bank Expressway to Raceland...then improve the roadway from the Huey to I-10...

the Earhart Expressway could be a good evacuation feeder to the Huey and go I-49 to Lafayette and up to Alexandria...

All you have to do is look at the work being done in Broussard to prepare for the interstate to know that it will be reality at some point. The most difficult piece will be the 3-4 mile stretch from the old Northgate mall (Willow) to the intersection with Pinhook near the airport.
