Dan, I get all that, but what if a mod needs to run 1.7 and all I have is the most updated MC from offical site? does tehcnic allow me to change mc version on the fly?
are you saying if I set up technic like the way you suggested when I run the game it will adjust the files according to what mod version I'm running?
I guess the main question ends up being this, can I run 1.7 and 1.8 mods simultaneously?

If you want to run a lot of the mods, 1.7.10 is really the only option. You can get mods to replicate some of the 1.8 features that are nice.
With Technic, you set the version of minecraft you wish to run with your modpack. You can create several modpacks to run any version you want and build different modpacks. Technic automatically installs and runs the version you set in the modpack.
