Get a dropbox account and set up your own technic modpack. It's pretty easy if you google it. Technic will install everything for you and run the right version.
Simple explanation is create a zip folder whatevername.zip and put it in your dropbox.
Inside that zip should be two folders, bin and mods.
In bin, all you need is the jar file of forge that you want to use, rename it modpack.jar
In mods, you have to put all your mods and any extra mods needed to run those mods.
Tie the zip folder in dropbox to your custom technic modpack on the technic website. Run technic and install modpack. When you make changes to it in your zip file, increase the version number on the technic website and it will eventually update your game.
Creating a custom game server pack is a bit more of a chore with all the bullshite going on behind the scenes forcing things like cauldron to not be real supported, but you only really need that if you want to run your own server.

Dan, I get all that, but what if a mod needs to run 1.7 and all I have is the most updated MC from offical site? does tehcnic allow me to change mc version on the fly?
are you saying if I set up technic like the way you suggested when I run the game it will adjust the files according to what mod version I'm running?
I guess the main question ends up being this, can I run 1.7 and 1.8 mods simultaneously?
