I used hydraulics on my old Tama Rockstar set. They are great for durability, but have zero flexibility.

If you're interested in opening the kit up a bit, maybe check out a Remo Coated Ambassador or Coated Powerstroke 3. They'll be plenty durable, and on a set like the Pearls, they'll still be deep and punchy, but with a more rounded sound.

I play Evans g2 clears on my kit, but when I played primarily rock or metal, I moved from the hydraulics to the coated Remo heads and never looked back.

I've never used anything but the remos, had a bad experience with two others so I've stayed safe. I hate buying heads lol
