I disagree. I lived at home all 5 years of college (yes it took me 5 years.. Ha ha look at the idiot). I still went out on weekends and stayed over at a friends house that lived near campus. But during the week I was going to class and studying. Going home every night. Sure I feel sometimes that maybe I missed out on something's but in the end it's better. I walked out of college completely debt free making $70k a year. I don't regret it at all.

I don't get why everyone is giving the OP flak for having his kid live at home. Unless the parents are overbearing, why spend the money to live away from home during college? If he's going to into a meaningful major he's going to need time to spend on his studies. I graduated in ME and all of my buddies who lived on their own/ with roommates had mommy and daddy paying for it (if the OP can do it then more power to him). It was rare to know someone in our classes that payed for rent on his/her own, truly living on their own dime and getting through engineering with decent grades..it can be done, but by very select few.
Of course when I lived at home my parents were pretty cool about it, never got on to me as to why I would get home at wee hours in the morning. I still had to work to pay for car note/insurance/gas/food and anything else I wanted, I couldn't imagine tacking on rent and still staying on the ball with school.
