One was 1998:

Louisiana State University's men's basketball program is prohibited from participating in the 1999 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship because of bylaw violations in the areas of recruiting and extra benefits. In addition, the NCAA Division I Infractions Committee placed the school on three years probation, reduced the number of initial financial aid awards in basketball for two years and reduced the number of total financial awards in basketball for three years. The penalties come as a result of findings by the committee that a former basketball student-athlete had received financial recruiting inducements while he was a prospect, as well as free physical rehabilitation treatment. Relatives of the prospect also received benefits.

What/when was the other? I cant dig it up anywhere.

Football in the early 80s. Can't remember the exact timing or players involved. Included some players overpaid for hourly work for a local business. Not massive amounts of money as I recall.

I was a kid when Dunson was playing.

I was always into trying to get wristbands, gloves, etc..

So I'm up against the fence and I keep calling DUnson, Dunson.......

He finally turned around and shot me the bird!!!!!

I was maybe 12 yrs old.

He's a pretty classy guy I must say.

Not sure if this is correct, but I believe Dale got in trouble for talking to Tito Hortford from Miami and eventually to Miami U. over the phone in a hotel room.

Does anybody else know about this?

Also, how many other SEC football programs have never been put on probation?

Then why does it talk about assistant football coaches entertaining the family members of recruits (free hotel visits and free meals at seafood restaurants--gasp!) from '81 to '84?

On four occasions during the fall of 1981, a then assistant football coach arranged for a student-athlete to sell four complimentary football tickets for the university's home games to an unidentified individual for approximately $200; (b) in December 1982, two representatives of the university's athletics interests arranged for $300 cash to be given to the father of a student-athlete in order to travel from his home to Miami, Florida, for the 1983 Orange Bowl game, and (c) in January 1986, at the conclusion of the expense-paid visit to the university's campus of a prospective student-athlete, a graduate assistant football coach arranged for a student-athlete to transport the young man and the coach to the young man's home.

the second one says basketball then talks about football in the report?

LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY PLACED ON NCAA PROBATION

MISSION, KANSAS--The National Collegiate Athletic Association's Committee on Infractions announced today that Louisiana State University has been placed on probation for a period of one year for violations occurring in the sport of football.

Included in the penalties is a requirement for the institution to submit a written report to the NCAA by February l, l987, that identifies measures taken to ensure that football coaching staff members are knowledgeable regarding NCAA legislation.

No sanction affecting postseason competition or television appearances was imposed against the university.

One current assistant football coach was involved in a recruiting violation in the case, and action was taken to require him to complete the course of instruction regarding NCAA legislation and to limit his off-campus recruiting activities during the l986-87 academic year. The violations did not involve any other current football coach.

Although the NCAA's action completes its review of the university's football program, inquiries are continuing into the men's basketball program, and the university will appear again before the Committee on Infractions at a future hearing.

"The violations found in football were not considered serious in nature," said Frank J. Remington, chair, NCAA Committee on Infractions, "and they did not demonstrate a pattern of abuse by the football coaching staff.
