It's more than just the media selling fear. IMO it mainly has to do with technology. We've talked about it around this board before, but the fact that we have literally instant access to every kind of news just about anywhere on the planet is the culprit. Add into that the media mainly reporting bad shite, and you have a dangerous mix of people thinking that everyone and everything is dangerous or out to get them.
Bad shite isn't really happening any more than it ever has IMO, it's just that we have more (and virtually unlimited) access to it now.

It's happening less.
Local news is the funniest. The stated goal would seem to be to scare old white people as much as possible.
