teachers would likely whine less if the kids they were educating respected them and or they were paid the wage they deserve.

Boom.
But I'd also add that maybe those students should work out more and learn to keep their mouths shut.

My wife is a teacher in one of the highest paid districts in the state. Her salary beats mine. More than that however, they get paid for every professional development, training, and unscheduled required day.
Average per hour pay isn't bad at all.
We have basically the same amount of vacation time, but I don't have to deal with kids. I consider the salary difference a wash.

Seriously?? They work like 2/3 of the year. Multiply their yearly wage by 1.33 and it's pretty damn solid if you ask me. I hate this argument.

Assuming a starting teacher makes $45,000 yr, the school year is 180 days and 8 hours long that comes out to $31.25 per hour in the classroom. That's not really bad. I know they have to go to professional development days and a few days outside of class days but the 2 1/2 months vacation makes up for that.
I did the same calc with $45k. And $31.25 and hour is great. Let's be real, that's much more than the majority of young professionals start out with per hour.

I think they're paid pretty fairly. TX teachers make in the 40-50s for only 9 months of work. That's decent money for a fairly easy to obtain bachelor's degree.
