Buy the nicest one you can afford, with the least rust. Seriously.
The CJ7 was made from '76-'86.
'76-'80 had narrow track axles.
'81-'86 had wide track axles.
Some '86s had a Dana 44 rear axle (vs. the AMC 20 that was back there for years.)
Look for rust on the floorboards: under the rear seat, where the roll-bar attaches, front seat footwells, etc.
They also rust on the side of the body, in front of the door openings where "Jeep" is stamped.
