Could be a lack of confidence his coach believes in him and will give him a fair shot at being an every day player, no matter how many starters left.
As one scout told me when my oldest kid was considering colleges, go where you are wanted, not just a place where you want to play. Maybe Zardon doesn't feel wanted. As others have noted, we don't know how the conversation went down. May Coach Mainieri said some things that left Zardon less than confident about his future playing opportunities on an every day basis.

just out of curiosity, how'd everything work out for your kid, what were his options, and what did he chose?

So is PM at fault for telling a kid the reality of the situation? Didn't he tell Foster he wasn't guaranteed anything last year? The problem so may kids have these days is they've been brought up to believe they're "special" players by their parents, and in some cases, travel-ball coaches. If they want to go somewhere where they can play everyday, great. But let's not act like they're getting screwed over.
