The better question is when was the last time the Cardinals needed a big deadline move
Just because you don't go for the big name player doesn't mean you couldn't use the big name player. Like imagine how scary Cardinals could be if they could trot out Cueto, Matinez, Lynn, Lackey, wacha right now while Garcia continues to come back. Then move Martinez or wacha to the bullpen to keep their innings in check.
