Our coaches are very smart men, and I DO think you will see them mix it up more, but last year you had some new starters at all the skilled positions, coupled with a veteran offensive line, and I beleive we averaged 5 yards a carry on first down, so it is hard to question the facts.

Good post.

Throwing on first down would do wonders for the offense.

There were games last season where we had numerous first down passes. Most of the time it resulted in 2nd and 10. We need passes that are catchable, and when they are, the receivers have to catch the damn thing.

Until Coach Miles realizes that you need to break tendencies, the offense will not be of championship caliber. Throwing on first down would do wonders for the offense.
Check your sit-stats before posting nonsense.
LSU threw roughly 33% of the time on 1st. Not so atrocious considering overall low pass attempts.

Thank you! This aurgument that a dt qb has a harder transition to pro style qb is crap. Drop back 3 to 7 steps and throw to three or four predetermine spots depending on where 5 to 6 players line up. A pro style qb should have more trouble going to a spread or read option offence. This isn't rocket science to drop back 5 yards and throw to a few spots on the field.

Every qb that came out of college 20 years ago to NFL ran an option type offence and then to pro style. Talented enough QB should be able run any offence. My opinion a dt QB should be able focus on the passing game and master it, without not having to give time to running the ball as part of his duties.

First...welcome.

Second, Harris does have experience in the I formation. If you watch his senior highlight video there are 3 or 4 times where he takes the snap from under center and runs play action-similar to what Cam runs. If you watch Anthony Jennings' s senior highlights, every single play is either from the shotgun or pistol. Coming out of HS, Harris actually had more experience than Jennings as a drop back passer.
