At least Winter Solider and GoG there were risks and things at stake, but Age of Ultron and probably Ant-man....no tension, nothing at stake, just a regular ole action flick

Yeah Ultron felt pretty freaking weak, I think its because the logical conclusion-- everyone being super freaking pissed at Tony for making a genocidal murder bot was put off until Civil War.

By far the best thing Marvel's put out since GoG is the Daredevil Miniseries.

I really feel this is more the studio's interference though than Whedon's incompetence. To do Ultron appropriately, it has to be incredibly dark, fricked up, and genocidal. I think all Disney would allow Whedon to do was hint at these things. The way he talked about Ultron even years before the film, he was clearly talking about a heavily disturbed mass murderer who was absolutely ruthless and self loathing.

Ultron's character largely came off as such, but his actions were just pathetic. I just don't understand why Ultron took Black Widow alive instead of ripping her in half on the spot. She could only serve to frick him over, and Ultron has no reason to take her hostage. This is just one of many of Ultron's ridiculous mistakes to make him defeatable and largely not a threat.
