Just for reference sake, here is an aerial of the lakes as they look now:

From those pictures I guess they plan to build it some time in the 1950's.

I thought the funding didn't come through for the Lake plans?
And I was pretty excited about the planned development down the Nicholson corridor outside of LSU until I read yesterday that the bank was foreclosing on all of that property because of the owner's default on $50 MM loan.

Still up in the air. Most of the projects are untouched by that...the Water Campus and LSU's Nicholson Gateway are still ongoing.
And if the bank did foreclose, someone else would just develop it.

An overview of what is planned...
As far as the funding...
BATON ROUGE AREA FOUNDATION
As far as the funding...

The Baton Rouge Area Foundation is underwriting the master plan but the work is being done in a collaboration with homeowners, people who use the lakes, and the government agencies responsible for implementing the plan and caring for the lakes.
Our partners include City-Parish Government and LSU, which own the lakes, and BREC, which operates Milford Wampold Memorial Park on Stanford Avenue and City Park off Dalrymple. Other partners are the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, the State Department of Transportation, which is responsible for the interstate that crosses over the lakes, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

It sucks that we have such a Great Blue Heron problem in the future, they will wipe out a fish population much more rapidly than bucket sitters.

should have bought that house on lake shore and Stanford when I had the chance.

They forgot the graffiti on the interstate overpass.

Love the idea of just a place on the water for people to go chill. Reminds me of The Fly in Nola which is one of my favorite places in Louisiana.

Should we expect this before or after the loop? What about before or after Top Golf?

I-10 is not backed up. Does this mean that the Loop is part of the plan?
There are no cars in the lake. This pic is not realistic.
Overall it looks great and I hope it turns out good.

these plans will make a nice addition for all the drug dealers and rapists on and around campus.

Looks great. Needs to happen. Has the money already been allocated?

The issue is that the group that is interested in the property in stead stated somewhere that they definitely want the property, though they may not want to develop it right away and would rather see how other things go first. The people with the streetcar are waiting to see what gets developed.
In short, the streetcar is waiting on the River District while the River District is waiting on the streetcar

Not yet, but much has been promised. $13 million was raised just last year by the legislature to get them started. That should provide much of the money they need to get through the permitting process and start dredging. The idea is that the work will be done in 4-5 stages and that a conservancy group will be set up that includes members of BREC, BRAF, LSU, and residents who live along the lakes. They will manage the property and oversee the completion of all of the phases, much like what was done with Central Park in NY or City Park in New Orleans.
