quote:
The commentators were calling for laying up on the drive. A no brainer for them.
Yeah I was watching live as well. When he pulled driver, the commentators were already freaking out. Then he hit a wounded duck, followed by the disaster.
It was unreal.

San Snead in the 1939 US Open at Philadelphia CC was pretty bad.
Needed Par to win Bogey for a playoff on the Par 5th 18th he made a triple bogey. Thought he needed birdie to win par to tie.

BBC coverage of VanDeVelde's 18th hole
Highlights: The drive, second, and third shots may have been the worst consecutive shots in history. The drive was way right fwiw.
His wife looks like she is laughing at him.
The crowd sounds like they are laughing after his second shot.
While Van was in the water, it looks like the marshall's are pushing the crowd back and things got a little testy.
Finally, at the end during the handshakes, it appears Parry informed Van De Velde there was a playoff. Van De Velde literally looks around confused after that discussion.
Oh, and I didn't realize Leonard could have won the OPen if not for his bogey on the 18th.

Kenny Perry at the Master's was pretty heartbreaking. Dustin Johnson has a tendency to blow up too. And Sergio for his whole career.
