If it's an indoor cat there is a good chance it is hiding somewhere nearby the house. They get scared as shite when they are out for long in an unfamiliar area. Same thing happened with my parents one time. Found it several hours later hiding in a storage area in the back he managed to crawl into.

That's what I want to believe.
We posted flyers in the neighborhood and took a golf cart around looking for it.
Also put food and water on the porch and at a nearby location.

Even a cat that's used to going outside isn't going to wander too far from its food source.

If its friendly though somebody might have let it into their house.

I've had cats like that. Ones that went in and out as they pleased sometimes they find a neighbor's house that they like better than yours and stay there but every now and then they still come around.
