ar balls
"Tar balls" have been washing up on shore since I was a kid (70s). We used to get them on our feet every summer in GI. It's not a BP oil spill thing, this shite has been happening for years. Doubt there is any environmental impact.

The matter was the sheer amount in a short amount of time, in a small area. Grand isle/Fourchon had an absurd amount of oil wash ashore compared to the rest of the Gulf coast.
But overall yeah the environment has done a great job of cleaning up. Only a few spots is it still persistent (80% of original concentrations remaining)
