When I was pregnant with my first and only child. My first sonogram revealed that he had Spina Bifida. Then he decided to enter the world 3 months early with an Omphalocele. He spent 2 months in NICU. He defies the laws of science everyday. You would never know that he had an L4 lesion and should be paralyzed. It's amazing what you're willing to sacrifice for someone you'd never met.

Finding out in 2003 that my wife was having twins and I was getting a trip to OIF. One of my sons was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palette. Back early on in OIF, they didn't send you home for the birth of a child for a couple weeks. I didn't see my sons until they were six months old when I came home on R&R. Lots of onion cutting in that airport.

I was 28 years old then. I'm 40 now.
