Jose being Jose
ETA: Looks like Bamford is headed to Palace on loan and Luis actually is going back to Atletico
quote:
From The Guardian: “Pogba is one of the top players in the world. Pogba goes to any team and improves that team automatically. If he stays at Juventus, Juventus will be very strong again. If he goes somewhere else he will improve immediately a team. This is not our case. We are changing Cech for Begovic, we are changing Didier for Falcao and we are changing kids by other kids. I think everybody has an interest in Pogba. But there are things you can do and things you cannot do. I love the Eiffel Tower but I can’t have the Eiffel Tower in my garden. I can’t even have the Eiffel Tower of Las Vegas.”
quote:
Also from The Guardian: “This season Porto pay €20m for Imbula, they give Casillas an amazing salary, Sporting are paying millions for coaches and players. Football breaks every situation. This season we are saying: ‘Oh, look at this amount for Sterling.’ But it will be worse next season. Next season someone will pay £60m. Football is like this – one season is financial fair play, the next is a way to dribble [past] the financial fair play. It doesn’t upset me. I’m happy with the way that we are doing things I am happy with the challenge of fighting against this power. I told the players that we are the same team and the others are not the same team. I cannot stop opponents to make an assault to the banks and spend millions and millions. I cannot stop that. I cannot stop [that] the others have a feeling that we are playing against the champions.
“The others are spending. The others are buying a lot to try to be better than us and the fact that we are the same – we are changing a goalkeeper for another one, a striker for another one.”

Frankly just not that good tonight. I know it was the first game, but disappointed still. Hopefully Jose buys people now.
In his press conference after, he said Traore and Moses were in his plans for this season so I guess that kills any idea of another attacker.

Guy on the left just led the Blues to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of NYRB's reserves and academy squad.

I wish. If anybody does, post pics.
Also, Mourinho finally set the record straight on what happened with De Bruyne. Here's quotes from the Guardian.
Also, Mourinho finally set the record straight on what happened with De Bruyne. Here's quotes from the Guardian.
quote:
"That is unfair because I wanted to keep him. And he told me it was not in his personality to be competing for a position in the team. He needed a team where he knows he can play every game. He needs to know that he is important. He did not want a team where he thinks am I playing or not? He needs that trust, he needs that quality. He needs that security. So I was not happy when he left. So yes it's not fair."
"He didn't tell me he couldn't handle the pressure. He told me he wanted to play every weekend. I told him this is Chelsea, you are very young, you have Eden Hazard, you have Mata, you have Willian, you have Schürrle, and I cannot promise you that. And the first game of the season against Hull City he played. For the second game against Manchester United, he played. The third game of the season was the Super Cup in Prague, I decided not to play him. For the fourth match, in the Premier League, he was on the bench. And he was not happy. He told me he was not happy."
"He was not training very well and he was saying: ‘I can't give you more. This is just my way.' So yes, I accept that if this his mentality and it's his choice to go, it is better for Chelsea to make a good deal. Chelsea made a good deal and he was happy to go and I am happy because the kid is a good kid. And I am happy for him."
"Players have different circumstances. We sold him, made our money and it was fantastic because we bought him cheap and sold him for a fantastic price. And now Wolfsburg, if they make a fantastic deal, that is good for them."

I'll be there. I'll take the best pics I can form the upper deck.
I'm definitely going to try to "borrow" some better seats in the lower levels though.

Good first half. Not great in the second half. Need a lot more depth. Zouma was playing Left Back before Chalobah came in to finish the game there.

The Independent has some fantastic excerpts from the upcoming Diego Costa biography. Really excited to read this. Amazon has its release date as October 1.
quote:
His first day at Chelsea Oscar [his Brazilian team-mate] is looking for three of his team-mates. He wants to introduce them to someone. Diego Costa has arrived for his first day as a Chelsea player and he has something he wants to say. He doesn’t have much English yet, but Oscar has helped him with the words. He’s been practising a single, short sentence. Actually, a mission statement. Oscar introduces Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic and Matic. They shake hands, then Costa straightens up and delivers his pitch in heavily-accented, halting English. “I go to war. You come with me.”
quote:
The player and the person Valladolid team-mate, Alberto Marcos: “Diego’s old school – what happens on the pitch, stays on the pitch. He can have a bust-up with you and be close to killing you and then, a few hours later you’re having dinner together. It’s like he steps into another world when he plays but he never leaves the field looking to get even. He just doesn’t hold grudges.”
quote:
Taking a stand at Albacete Albacete medical assistant, Manolo Bleda: “The club decided to pay the players but not the rest of the staff. When he heard that, Diego refused to train until everyone was paid. In 35 years I have never known anyone else take a stand like that.” Eduardo Rodríguez Vellando, the Albacete club doctor: “One day the president came into the dressing room. He was going round everyone shaking their hands. Diego waited for his turn, and then kept his hands by his side and asked if the kit men had been paid. ‘I’m not shaking your hand until you pay them,’ he said.”

Costa seems like it was precautionary, but I really hope he doesn't play on Sunday:
Cahill:
Should get an update in the next few days. I'm pretty sure both players were still undergoing tests.

Cahill:

“Cahill has a chance of a broken nose, maybe yes, maybe no,” Mourinho said. “If no, perfect. If yes, he will get a mask tomorrow to be ready for Sunday.”-Jose

Cahill definitely has a broken nose...did you guys see how much blood was flowing and the punch he took?
Can anyone care to explain why we are after Stones so hard? Do we really need another CB this bad? I know he is a young, English CB and Terry is probably gone after the year...but we still have Zouma and Cahill plus multiple youngsters. Is Stones this good that we need to pay big bucks right now?
We do need a backup at LB/RB...hopefully sign one of the guys (Baba or the kid from Galatasaray) in the coming week.

I guess if we think he's going to be the next John Terry it's worth it. That said, I totally agree with you that we have much more pressing needs for this season we seem to have no intention of addressing.
