Well I guess the OP should have qualified his question with the caveat that you should only post if you were financially independent and truly destitute.

well I was always flirting with broke in college, and lived off 2-3k per year. First year out of college, I felt like I was living like a king off $7k. 
Grad school was actually tougher than undergrad to live cheaply, bc the wife had a full time job as did I. But our expenses were so much higher then, and we were used to things a bit nicer by then.
