At some point this would lead me to believe it's time to buy some precious metals. No? Maybe I should buy assets classes high, and later sell them low?

Silver is cheap (relative to itself and to silver to gold ratio). Do you only purchase the physical commodity? I am not a huge fan of silver tracking ETFs, but the liquidity of the physical good is not great.

I buy physical silver. I trade the options on SLV. I own a small amount of physical gold, but I'm mostly almost exclusively a silver purchaser. Occasionally I'll speculate on the options on futures contracts.
WIth respect to entry point, I think silver could see loser lows, but I don't try to get too cute with timing it, so I buy smaller amounts on the way down. I've increased my average cost to above $6 due to this. But still, I'm in it right.

Below $15 now. I think you said last summer that you'll load up the truck under $15

IowaGolfer, piggybacking off of bayougengals' comment, I recall you being big on SLW last year too. They are trading around 15, with a 10% drop today. Are you still following them?

I'll probably buy more SLW at some point soon. It is a decent long term hold in my view.

I'll likely buy some physical soon as well. A couple of things have changed with respect to below $15 being a good buy, but predicated on time frame, below $15 won't lose you money.

I'd think 2017 SLV leaps with a strike of $12 if they continue to fall would make a compelling trade where you'd have a long time to be correct.

Idiotic question here...but if there's so much demand why aren't spot prices higher?
Posted on 7/7/15 at 6:09 pm to bayoubengals88
Price is really controlled by a few large players in futures market. Investment demand is minor compared to industrial demand. I haven't checked lately, but I think we have a deficit of silver production to use again this year. There is some recycling, and some bullion sales that mitigate this to an extent.
I'm not a conspiracy guy, but silver is hugely manipulated. There's a reason JP Morgan depresses prices through short contracts, while recently taking record delivery. They are big. They will wait. So will I.
I'm not much for gold, but I understand the industrial uses and production of silver. It's aa good investment as far as I'm concerned. Predicated on one's time frame of course. I'm copying JP Morgan. Almost exactly, except the short futures contracts.

Yeah, I've seen you mention JPM regarding silver before.
As far as it being a good investment...how easy or difficult is it to sell a few thousand ounces?

A play on metals would be a bearish bet on the dollar. I am not willing to make that bet right now.

I have a written agreement with the dealer I buy from to sell back at spot. Limited to 10K oz any one week.
Janky is correct, A strong dollar doesn't normally help although we've had periods of a strong dollar and high silver prices. I don't see what I'm doing as a bet against the dollar for reasons I'm not going to get in to though. JP Morgan probably isn't betting against the dollar currently, but they have the most physical possession they've had in a long time.
I merely try to copy people, like JPM in this instance, who do complicated stuff like trying to buy at as low of a price as possible, and eventually selling at a higher price.
I'm from Iowa. We're pretty simple up here. Laffy.

Here's what I don't understand farmerman...
How do you know what JPM is doing with silver? Just trying to learn here.

On CBOE website. Commitment of traders report. And another report that shoes who is taking physical possession.
They're hugely short futures contracts, but taking deliver, and lots of it on their fewer long contracts.
I'm mobile, or I would post links. But you can find it if you dig around a bit. There are also some articles on it, but mostly written by silver longs, so you need to separate facts from their bias. The CBOE reports are factual.
Farm land is worth quite aa lot. Our football team isn't worth much except pain. We play tOSU close, and I guess that's good enough up here. Drives me frigid nuts.
