You can't hit home runs if you're trying to?
Were we not trying to hit home runs in 2013 when we led the NL in homers and finished 4th in runs?

Not that it's much better, but Braves were tied for 22nd in baseball last year.

When you stock the team with HR or bust hitters, you are playing and trying for home runs.. Another hit for Markakis. It's ok to get good hitters who can hit home runs, but don't go for guys that hit home runs or strike out.

You're right I accidentally sorted by SLG% for some reason.

Hit led to a run for Markakis. He's starting to pull the ball for hits. It is a matter of time. He did have an injury he had to heal from.

Not sure if you're aware of this or not but Mike Trout and Giancarlo Stanton were both in the top 6 last year in terms of highest percentage of PAs that ended in a strikeout or home run. You don't want those guys on your team?

What are their batting averages?
And I'm sure the elite are available for us to pick up.

Stanton .265, Trout .299.
Both guys were in the .280s last year.
Justin Upton was #7 on that list. He hit .270.
Those are the guys who do what you don't want on your team the most. Would you not want to have those players?

.300 with power is ideal. Not .250 and below with power. Upton would be the only one I would have wanted in our group.

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents here.
You don't trade Maybin right now unless you get absolutely wowed by the return. And I'm not talking more pitching prospects. Now, by next winter/trade deadline I think it's a different story unless something unforeseen happens in Mallex Smith's development.
Peraza is pretty much done in CF with Mallex being called up. So if Mallex can keep up his numbers and continue to learn how to be a CFer, he'll be our starter by next June or so, if not the start of next season.
I think Peraza is getting set up to be traded. I just don't see a spot for him. Ozhaino Albies looks like a monster so far in A ball. I think we try to sell Peraza and use Jace as a stop gap until Albies is ready.
Just my completely uneducated opinion.
On another note, it'd be great to get a win here. Hope Wisler can finish up the 6th. I've liked him a lot so far.

Obviously they're not available they're arguably 2 of the 5 best every day players in baseball.
Just trying to understand what you mean by this.

The elite aren't available. Forget the elite. I want good hitters, not just home run hitters.
If you can't hit to the opposite field, play for somebody else.

So you didn't like Brian McCann when he was playing for us and in his prime?

I'd agree with you on everything but the Maybin bit. If we get a decent deal for him there is no reason not to go ahead and move him. It's not like we are going anywhere this season, and getting a top 10 pick would allow us to make free agent signings. Mallex should be ready by June like you said, and Perez can start in CF till then.

Not the last few years. Loved it when he was going opposite field. When they started doing the shift, and he still pulled, nope.

Here is how the 2014 Braves ranked in terms of percentages of plate appearances that ended in Ks or HRs:
BJ Upton: 31.8%
Justin Upton: 31.2%
Evan Gattis: 29.7%
Chris Johnson: 27.6%
Freddie Freeman: 23%
Jason Heyward: 16.8%
Andrelton Simmons: 11.6%
Does not look to be a lot of correlation there between how much you put the ball in play (non HR) and how good of a hitter you are.

They did the shift because he didn't go the other way, he was the same hitter before and after.

Some of those will be lower than they should be when you are a HR hitter and don't hit any cause you suck. Pop ups for example.
I meant lower percent because you only hit 5-10 home runs. The pop ups are because they suck.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'd trade him tomorrow if someone came with a good enough offer. I'm just saying there isn't a reason to move him right now unless it's a great deal. If we trade him, we're basically saying we're going to tank the rest of the year. So we should get prospects who are tank worthy.
