I agree, and I support the military at every opportunity, but my apologies for saying that this holiday is much bigger than our military. They get their holidays, this is one everyone should share and feel equally included in.
To respond to the OP, it seems a little lazy on them to default to honoring the military, but doesn't make it a bad thing to do today. But, like I said, they're not capturing the bigger point of the holiday.

I agree. It is worthy to honor those who fought the Revolution (and other wars) for our country. But there is much more to it than just that on this day. I know its a slightly arbitrary date (as someone pointed out), but it is the date that was chosen to celebrate the event
With all the controversy about flags and what not lately, I would hate to think that it was more than just laziness and not trying not to offend. But it does make me wonder.
Then again I could be wrong.

You couldn't be more wrong. Nothing is bigger than our military and absolutely nothing takes priority over honoring veterans.
People think that just because it's Christmas or Easter or whatever that they don't have to thank veterans. Newsflash, no veterans means no Christmas. Show some respect.

we'd be part of some nation... maybe the independent nation of Louisiana
this day would instead be January 8th
