After a little while, this started to look more and more likely.
STL Post Dispatch columnist Joe Strauss has been saying for a while that the "prank" aspect and low level aspects are off base, based on what is known about the FBI investigation.

Holy shite, that is just dumb as a rock dumb.
I think Competitor A has some of my proprietary data. Ergo, I have the right to hack into his computers, examine HIS proprietary data, in order to ensure that he doesn't possess any of MY proprietary data.
Holy shite.
Like I said, stone-cold stupid.
