it doesn't excuse the ref not issuing a red card to Johnston. It would be really lame to find excuses for the refs incompetence. U.S. dodged one big time and we should just count our blessings.

Well, I would say it does. If you're brought down by a necklace that you're not supposed to be wearing then it's your fault, not a foul.

Disclaimer: Didn't go re-watch the replay, so I'm not saying the hand DID get caught, but it would matter if it did.

Ehhh. They were mugging Morgan all night - inside and outside the box. It cuts both ways.

I'm not saying it shouldn't have been a red card. I'm just saying the U.S. dominated that game and if they played it 9 more times Germany would have lost every single one of them. Germany put 1 shot on frame the entire night. The better team won. Period.

Did Germany not dodge two penalties toward the end of the first half?

And I don't think that's red on Johnston. She touched the ball, not the German chick, and there wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity since Solo was right there.
