I guess I didn't realize that there was some moral obligation that requires us to permanently raise the banner of every nation that has ever been defeated at every site of every battle.

There are still plaques commemorating the historic battles that took place at that location and explaining the history. No one is rewriting history textbooks or pretending like the civil war never happened or the confederacy never existed. The park service decided to remove the flags, and that decision is completely within their authority. The guy I originally replied to apparently took that action as a personal attack on any private citizen that chooses to display a confederate flag, which is ludicrous. You apparently think removing a flag is the same as censoring text books or something, and that's equally baseless.
