What's the point of tagging that many fish? That seems ridiculous

I don't catch that many fish I want to throw back. Nor do I care to tag every one I throw back. Especially if the bite is good.

We eat a lot and give a lot away but he fishes 4 to 5 days a week April to December.. Anything undersized gets tagged and if we caught good the day before we might go back and just tag not keep.. We tagged 80 keeper reds at the rocks of bell pass last month in one day.. We put the first 10 in the box and tagged the rest.. If you are catching fish and have tags why not tag them.

Biologists get important data from fish tagging studies...growth rates, movement patterns, etc.

The Louisiana Cooperative Marine Sportfish Tagging Program is free to participate in. I'm surprised more "sportsmen" don't participate in it but I guess I shouldn't be...your average Louisiana fisherman is pretty ignorant.
