Best suburb of Houston to buy a house?

Any opinions on the best suburb to buy a house in the Houston area?
Important factors are:
-Safety
-Nice homes at decent price
-Good schools
-Around a 30 minute commute to downtown both ways.
Currently looking at Missouri City, Friendswood, and Lake Houston (specifically Summerwood) areas. Any opinions on these areas or others to suggest?
TIA

not many burbs are going to be a 30 min commute. probably need to stay inside the beltway for that commute.

I don't think you're getting downtown from any of them in 30 during rush hours

Can't go wrong with the Katy area (especially the Katy Area south of I-10). Also The Woodlands is very nice.
Edit: didn't see the 30 minute commute part...both these are about a 45-50 minute commute

Yeah you are gonna be hard to find someplace 30 min from downtown. Out of those I'd say Summerwood, 59 usually isn't as bad as 10. You might also want to look at Oakwood in Kingwood area.
We live in Katy in Cinco Ranch Southwest and love it, but the commute can be bad. We will be moving though at end of year to KC.

The Woodlands may be worth the extra 15 - 20 minute commute.

Right. Pushing 40 would be ok. But Google maps, with traffic, is telling me that most of the locations I listed will only take 25-35 minutes at this hour. I guess locals would know better than Google Maps, though.

Kingwood might be your best shot at sniffing a commute like that.

The one thats not going to flood in the next 24-48 hours.

I lived in Cinco and it took me 45 minutes to get downtown at 5:00 AM, if I left at 7:00 AM it was an hour and 30 minutes.
This was 2010 so I'm assuming it hasn't gotten better

I'd LOVE to move to Cinco one day, but I think for the next few years, it's out of our price range (young married couple here.)

I was expecting at least one of these reponses.

I was in Missouri city over the weekend and that place is a dump and not conveniently located.

Important info. Consider it scratched off the list.

Been living in Sienna Plantation for 8 years. Love it and wouldn't want to leave anywhere else in the Houston area. Best neighborhood to raise a family without a doubt. And for the poster calling Missouri City a dump, apparently you have never been to the new Sugar Land like part of Mo City along hwy 6. Old Mo City off 1092 and Texas Pkwy, which I have only been through a handful of times in 8 years, is a dump but only people who live in that area go there.
ETA: And no clue what you are talking about when it comes to convenience. The fort bend toll road takes you straight into 610 in about 15 minutes. Half of the 7000 households in Sienna commute to downtown/med center. And we are right next to Sugar Land which is one of the nicest suburbs in the state.
Not to mention there are a million LSU families in our neighborhood.

but if you happen to miss Sienna the rest of Missouri City is really a dump
Sienna is nice and the tollway makes the commute easy

Huh. Just plugged in the commute to Google Maps when NOT in rush hour... 35 minutes isn't too bad at all. Something to consider - I love the area and I have a good friend moving there this summer. I can only hope my potential office location in Houston is more north than south.
