I know it works fine as a laptop, but I'm assuming the person has another laptop of roughly equal capability.
I mean, I have a 2011 MBP upgraded with a SSD (so it functions very well), and when I sit down at night to work I'm usually not breaking out the SP3 unless there is a specific Windows task I need to perform (or an SP3 task, like annotating documents).
It's a very useful hybrid, and far better than an iPad and keyboard, but you really think most would choose it over a primary laptop for productivity?
