Nah it's gonna struggle with a 9k pound camper no matter what you do to it.
A newer half ton would have a much easier time with it. If you're a ford guy look at an ecoboost before you spring for a diesel. The Chevys also tow extremely well now. You could probably find a used one for a decent price. The 6 speed transmissions make a huge difference with those trucks.
A diesel is a good buy for a dedicated tow rig though. Just stick to cummins and Duramax for those years and have it checked out by someone who knows what to look for. Dont let high mileage scare you too much.
