A lot of accountants go that route. After graduating, I worked in public for 3 years then left to work in private business through a contact I made in public. Seemed to happen a lot in our firm. Our partners were very hands on and did a lot of work, and we always had 3 or 4 recent grads come in and stay a few years then move on, usually to industry or financial institutions. A couple girls that started when I did stayed for 8-10 years and are managers now. I just couldn't do the 60 hour weeks in tax season and the audit traveling.
