Agreed. Grew up watching Jordan from the time he was a star at NC to his entrance into the NBA. I, like most of my generation, idolized the guy. He was Mike, he was the Babe Ruth of basketball. As time has passed, I still appreciate his accomplishments on the court and no one could take that away from him. However, MJ is a grade A a-hole
I'm sorry, but who really gives a shite if he was an a-hole? Most of these athletes are entitled and pieces of shite. I don't admire them because of their voting record, their stance on the "issues," or anything like that. I admire them because they do things that are borderline athletically superhuman. Do they get a free pass for being assholes? Not really. But you can very easily separate the two categories. Wilt was a POS. Kemp was exciting to watch and he has a billion illegitimate kids. And none of that really diminishes their ATHLETIC legacy.

Did I say anything disparaging his athletic ability? Did I even suggest that because he's an a-hole he shouldn't be respected for his accomplishments? No, I didn't. My post was a reflection on perception of a person and how that changed with time. I can appreciate the hell out of MJ, still do, doesn't change the fact that I think he's a prick any more than his being a prick doesn't diminish his accomplishments

This made me think of MJ saying "Republicans buy shoes too" and Kobe refusing to offer any opinion on the Trayvon Martin stuff.
They each got some backlash too, but most of us just want to see these athletes play ball, whether they're assholes or not.
