A lot of people thought Eddie Van Halen invented "tapping" until it was pointed out that that Chapman developed the two hand tapping method of playing in 1969.

Actually, I read that it was an Italian guitarist named Vittorio Camardese who did a few recordings in 1965. Chapman expanded the concept to more than 6 strings.
