I mean that's nice in theory. Pitching is volatile and a lot of them take time. If your window to win is now then you just have to go out and get it. It's delusional to think you can build an entire staff internally

Cubs have a 3 or 4 year window where a lot of guys will be in their prime, Lester included. Their time is now. They will round out their staff buy spending money or trading hitting

Your Stros have more arm "prospects" . You have two guys set in place. Assuming you think your window is now (you're in 1st place after all) do you lean on the McCullers, Appel, Velasquez types to develop in that timeframe? Chances are you'll be forced to pay or try to pay a big name SP. is your FO ready to roll out 9 figures to a starter?
