Going fishing for specks/reds next week with friends and haven't done so in about 25yrs.

I bought a couple of Shimano Saharas with Castaway 7' rods a few years ago loaded with braid and have never used them. Do I need a mono or flouro leader? How long? What kind of knot? Any tips?

No need for mono if you are just throwing artificial cocahoes. Mono leader will be needed if you plan on throwing anything weedless or live bait.

Just to even this thread out. I throw straight braid. I can not tell a difference in results for visibility but I lose much less fish for varying reasons, and because of that I use braid. I do use flouro from cork to jighead.
