I'm sorry, it's absurd to build a lazy river when the school is in "financial ruin". I don't care where the money is coming from and how it was decided, it's just in poor taste to make something so trivial when we are having to apparently downsize.
The way finances work at the university are very much like government. Got to spend the money to show that you need the money. That's why we end up with so much stupid crap that isn't really needed. These different departments suck up money that can be used for something that would be beneficial to the education part of the university instead of putting in new rec fields or something that is secondary.
Again, I know this money was apparently raised differently, but I still think the student government should realize the situation and define new requirements as to how the money can be used to truly help the school. By increasing fee bills to help the rec center, you take away from the ability to increase fee bills to help the school in general.

So having nice things as a pull to enroll more students in and out of the state is or is not in LSU's best interest?

The money was voted on, raised, and project decided before there was a budget cut.
Before.
Now you want to go back on that deal? Pathetic.

No that's not correct. The institution can raise tuition however they like. This was voted on and accepted and paid for by the students. Faculty can also use it although they haven't paid a dime into it. Hes entitled to his opinion and can say what he likes but it doesn't touch the money appropriated for education. If he cares so much maybe he can put a petition together to lower faculty salaries and then that money could be put into improving the education. Didn't think so. Stop bitching.

Has ZERO to do with the topic at hand.

Why? The fee was created for this purpose and approved by the students who paid it. Bitching about it because it coincides with a budget crisis is silly.
