Successful Grade Appeals at LSU

Have any of you ever successfully appealed grades? How high up the ladder did you have to go to receive your answer? I am currently facing a professor and his bitch TA who are determined I don't take it over their head, but I'm thinking of doing it on principle alone.

I would think to just go to the department head with the problem.

I once had an A successfully appealed down to a B after various meetings with my TA.

What'd you do this time?

What's the reason behind the appeal?
Scruffy knows someone who almost missed graduation by 1 pt on the final.

I received a very poor grade on a final project even though all specifications on the syllabus were followed. I did not follow one NEW specification the professor casually tossed in an email that was mixed up with all of my other emails and he's trying to tell me that he can take off 25% of my grade because of it. I'm stating that because I followed what the syllabus and all other official documents stated that I should receive full credit, because all of the content was given perfect marks. He's saying that his email in which he put 3/4 of the way down a new specification without any emphasis on it is good enough. His TA is just a bitch who thinks she is a dean. The issue took me from an A to a C and I'm pissed.
ETA: The new specification had to do with the length of one of my arguments in the project. Because it was short based upon some bullshite system he decided to add a couple weeks ago in that email, I lost all my points.

No, that is not it at all, actually.

sounds like you are at fault.
how much did the new guideline change the format of the project.
Wait a minute. Please tell me this isn't the poster project for LA 1403 (IIRC)

department head. if this new specification for the project was not verbally said in class, you have a good point to show him/her. imo, you cant change assignments through email and expect everyone to get said email and follow it to a T. things like this need to be addressed in the classroom

You can try to go over his head, but it sounds like he sent you the info.
Scruffy would put your chances at "slim".
It doesn't hurt to try though.
It isn't like he can take more points off.

It basically changed the required length of certain arguments. My arguments were all the length required by the posted syllabus and supporting documents. I have never been taught that an email takes precedent over the syllabus, because email is not a guaranteed method of communication.
No, it's not. It's a 4000 level class, which makes it even more bullshite.

That's partially why I want to go over his head. He has told me that should I appeal it, I face having my grade lowered because he will go back over the project entirely again, which I find to be complete bullshite. What's the point of a grade appeal if he can just lower it at will?

it cant hurt to argue your case, but saying

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Emails aren't a strong enough form of communication, especially those classwide emails they send.

Those classwide emails get buried or grabbed by spam filters all the time. I've always been told what is on the syllabus is the correct answer.
