Not sure the year, but between the end of the Cold War and pre-Putin (or maybe early Putin) didn't the invite American veterans to join them one year? I think it's only happened once.
Obviously, we've had a bad relationship with Russia / USSR since the end of WW2 (save for a little bit of time post-Cold War), and it's not that good now.
But holy hell did they go toe-to-toe with Nazi Germany and came out on top. (not that I admire all of that necessarily, those 2 armies destroyed each other's civilian populations wherever they came across them)

Lol at wartime propaganda. The Bolsheviks were freedom fighters!!
FDR was a fanboy of Stalin and the Soviets. Without Lend-Lease Aid and eventual US intervention, they never could have defeated Germany.
