It happens really fast. You are driving behind a vehicle at highway speeds then all of a sudden, the car ahead of you veers away revealing a hazard sitting in front of you. We're talking milliseconds to respond in some cases.
Driver who hit the gator should definitely have cleared his vehicle from the highway and if it was disabled, he should have removed himself from the highway. so sad but avoidable

This can happen with bicyclist too.

I don't think the van driver had a chance to move his van, nor did he exit the van.
